We've recently learned that amyloid plaques don't cause Alzheimer's and low levels of serotonin are not responsible for depression despite decades of research, billions of dollars, and countless SSRI prescriptions (a drug which has suicide as a major side-effect). I will be entirely unsurprised when they make the same revelation about statins and cholesterol.

I can't think of what it would take for me to trust the medical establishment again. How can I be sure that their research is not gamed or outright fraudulent, even for drugs that have been in use for decades?

What would it take for me to willingly get vaccinated in my lifetime? I just can't think of anything--I don't think it's possible. Once trust is lost it's very difficult to get back.
