I was walking through a jungle path to get to a surf beach in Mexico. The path runs about 5-20 feet from a lagoon, which is known to have crocs. I heard a dog woof from the bushes. This concerned me. I assumed a dog was at the waters edge and was barking at a croc. I stopped and called to the Perro. The dog. I tried to get him away from the water. At that point the path was about 10’ from the lagoon. He kept barking. I gave up. About 100’ up two surfers were there all excited. ‘Did you see it? Did you see the croc?’ They had been leaving but a large crocodile blocked their way. I told them about the dog. One laughed. ‘Was it a deep sort of woof woof?’ Yeah it was, I said. It turns out that was no dog. It was a croc giving me a warning I was too close. I asked how big was it and they estimated about 14’. So I had been reaching out into the jungle calling for a dog to get away from the waters edge. Only I wasn’t.

Open carry if you are in the jungle with pythons and gators. Your life may depend on it.
