I became (formally) involved in education in the late 1980's through around 2005, quitting at the end (I couldn't take it any longer!). Towards the end I was warning that as technology increased it would be creating what I referred to as "pseudo-literate graduates". No truer words have been spoken.

Like many things, technology is both a blessing and a curse. In my book, however, technology is FAR more a curse that a blessing. For one, technology has created a "modern" individual that is incapable of surviving outside of that technology. Exceptions are few and rare - diminishing as we speak.

300 years ago, 99% of all people could (and did!) survive with just their wits and basic know-how. Today, 99% of all people would die a slow death as soon as the lights went out. They wouldn't even begin to know what to do since the most basic survival skills sans technology are ZILCH!!

We've all heard the "joke" - it's true! - that if smart phones disappeared overnight, 90% or more of all people would be frozen as a deer in headlights, they wouldn't know what to do with themselves.

What about critical thinking? Hah - forget it!! Most "modern" individuals couldn't critically think their way out of a paper bag. It is absolutely incredible to observe this phenomena! Hey, why "think" when you can "Google" or "ChatGPT" it? Thinking is hard and tiring!

Technology *should* have brought about THE most educated generation in human history. Instead, it has created the largest population of "educated idiots" ever.

Yes, technology has given us comforts, made life "easier" (has it really?), extended life (has it really?),... But don't neglect the horrors that technology has also made possible (e.g., millions of people can be vaporized in an instant with thermonuclear bombs or slowly killed with mRNA "vaccines").

My vote: "Send technology in education back to the drawing board - it needs *critical* revisions!!"

Not likely. Why? Because American K-12 teachers are among THE most stupid and uneducated of all college majors and have been so for at least the past 50 years
