I have posted this before but its worth posting again. Page 5 and 6 of the Hospital Respiratory Protection Program Toolkit put out by OSHA, NIOSH and the CDC clearly states that surgical masks are not protective against small particulates. https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/docs/2015-117/pdfs/2015-117revised042022.pdf?id=10.26616/NIOSHPUB2015117. In addition there is a study sponsored by the CDC that found that persons wearing N95 masks without a vent are exposed to levels of carbon dioxide that are 7 times over the OSHA exposure limit. See “Evaluation of N95 Respirator Use with a Surgical Mask Cover: Effects on Breathing Resistance and Inhaled Carbon Dioxide” by EDWARD JAMES SINKULE, JEFFREY BRYON POWELL and FREDRIC LEE GOSS." I contracted a Certified Industrial Hygienist to sample the air employees were breathing inside a surgical mask for 8 hours. The samples were collected and analyzed following approved methods by a certified lab. Chain of custody was followed for the samples. We measures levels of carbon dioxide that were two times over the OSHA exposure limit.
