From the med tech I know in a major Massachusetts hospital very well (Extremely well). When the covid testing was kicked off (after the hospital spent considerable funds on the new testing equipment in order to capture as much of the $ billions $ available for tesing as possible), it was akin to a magicians slight of hand. Suddenly (instantly actually) the MD's in the hospital stopped ordering flu panels and instead odered covid tests. It was like the flu just disappeared. The flu panel orders went right off a cliff. Zilch, nada, no more ..... And, as almost everyone knows by now, the covid testing has been extremly flawed and prone to a high precentage of false positives. Presto .... instant pandemic.
