My interpretation is that this teacher is making a point.
He's a troll, in a good way. I think he's being so outrageously woke so that even the woke can't handle it. He's finding the limit, the point at which everyone has to say "wokeness is cruel and stupid".
Is it Just “leave” or “paid leave”. Maybe he’s is taking advantage of the present social madness surrounding “trans” female, and wants some paid time off.
