Why wouldn't an Israeli soldier use a Palestinian as a human shield? Wouldn't that stop Hamas from killing both of them? I think we both know the answer to that. Hamas puts no value on Palestinian lives.
The emerging news is that Israeli government has a policy known as the Hannibal Doctrine, which is that it's better to sacrifice innocent Israeli's, than have them taken as hostages. This may have come into play regarding the music concert victims possibly having met their demise at the hands of an IDF Apache gunship. We have a weak President who refuses to condition our aid to Israel on attention to the American hostages, in part because Team Biden does not care at all about Americans. And if American hostages were released, the level of concern in America would, to some extent, whether right or wrong, necessarily decline, and hence perhaps impair the flow of money or carte blanche support to Israel. Not hostages. Palestinians released in exchange for innocent Israeli hostages were convicted prisoners.

I believe I read 14 Thai "workers"(?) were released first in a separate negotiation. 13 Israeli women and children were to be released next.
