The truth is that originally setting old age pensions at 65 was because the odds of actually reaching 65 was pretty damn low, with only a few years of payout before death. Analogy is going to Vegas and expecting to win consistently against the house. As people have lived longer in the last 6 decades their wealth could be drained by medical industry til death of old age. When number of poor reaching 65 increased exponentially, the Govt run pension funds were underfunded primarily because the funds were mis-managed/appropriated or outright stolen & frankly never intended to be paid out.. The day of accountability couldn't be put off much longer, so culling of the herd was necessary to balance the books. In Canada, our estate gets a grand total of $2500.00 burial allowance from Kanada Pension. The govt keeps the balance of our life long govt mandatory pension contributions. There is zero incentive to keep the poor alive from that perspective. Clot shot solved a lot of fiscal irregularities in just 2 years as life expectancy has dropped for 1st time since about WW2. Kanada's solution is MAIDS, medical assistance in dying, a govt supplied suicide kit available at local drug store with an RX. That is the new Kanadian Dream⚰️, an easy death after being bled dry. 🍻
