here's what happened: the TV (various voices) kept repeating "pandemic of the unvaccinated" so my family screamed at me to get vaccinated because I'm "selfish" and would "kill grandma" if I did not; the family of the guy I was dating told him that he couldn't bring me anywhere they would be, because surely my unvaxxed germs would get them, and besides only "bad" people were not getting the shot.... people I have known for years lost all logic, and those who did not know my status assumed I was vaccinated (of course) and told me what they really think about unvaccinated people.... like we need to get at the end of the line for medical treatment, and let the "good" vaccinated people have priority (because it is our fault, because "pandemic of the unvaxxed"). Places I've gone for years to concerts and events said only those who could show proof of vaccination were welcome. My employer said that vaccinated people don't have to wear masks, but unvaxxed DO, because obviously "pandemic of the unvaccinated."

When I told my own very sweet and intelligent cousin (a retired lawyer, in fact!) that I have NOT been vaccinated (and we were scheduled to have lunch or dinner together when he was recently in town), he immediately cancelled the get-together because his own doctor had, apparently, told him to be very careful, etc., because he (my cousin) was "pre-diabetic;" and I guess he took that to mean that being in close contact with an unvaxxed person might be "dangerous?!?" As an alternative, he suggested that he and his wife (and his sister and her husband - the reason he wanted all of us to get together!) could meet with me at MY place "outside" and masked! I gave it about two minutes' thought; and, without being or trying to sound a bit snarky, just said that maybe we should just wait 'til next time he's in town, etc. etc. And then, when I told a great doctor friend of mine (who was one of the first to lead in the path of "Truth & Light" about all of this), he just confirmed that my cousin was dead wrong and didn't know a damn thing! Indeed, the ignorance out there is just unbelievable, but, sadly, VERY widespread!
So sorry you are dealing with this in your own family. Honestly, it is so cruel that the media and the public health officials who should (and do) know better, allow people to misunderstand how our immune systems work, to set things up through the ignorance and fear of the population, that a SINGLE INDIVIDUAL, unvaxxed person is "toxic" and dangerous to others -- whether those others are vaccinated or not.
But just the notion that the individual unvaccinated person is an automatic, selfish superspreader. The theory always was, I think, that a combination of catching the illness (natural immunity) and vaccinated immunity will bring us to herd immunity, and that the ones who should go out there and catch it and neutralize it should be the ones who are not harmed by it -- i.e., the children. But it never has ever been true that a magic vaccination means you are safe to be around, and if you fail to get that magic vaccination, you are dangerously toxic. BS!

(When I worked and was a LOT more involved with community activities, I was lucky to get 4 - 6 hours/night, so I think that's a good thing now, too!)
