‘The town of Westlock, AB, on Thursday voted in favour of a bylaw banning non-government flags and Pride crosswalks.Â
The mayor put out a statement he did not support the ban.Â
The proposal was first put forward in November, after the local 'gay-straight alliance' painted the Pride rainbow on town crosswalks and other infrastructure. A group of residents brought a petition to the town council in protest, which decided to put the matter to a town vote.Â
Citizens of Westlock, a town about an hour north of Edmonton has a population of about 5,000 people, of which 1,302 residents voted, per CTV News.’
Well done, citizens of Westlock, Alberta.
Not only is the rainbow 'message' offensively oppressive (similar to government sponsorship of a preferred religion) but the current trend of painting artistically meritless murals and graffiti throughout cities and towns (in the U.S.) is a visual blight on the environment.
I am amazed that this "alliance" in this town thought it was a good thing to paint the "pride" flag all over. That's a propagandistic thing to do. It doesn't need to be in everyone's face at all times. THAT is the offensive part - the blatant virtue signaling.
The good thing is that there were enough rational thinking people on the town council to say - this must be voted on by the people. I surely would not want to be FORCED to see that all the time everyday.
