Prior to 2020 there’s no historical data on PCR testing to diagnose for Covid-19. So a question worth pondering is, How do we know if people would’ve tested positive years before then? Maybe Covid-19 has been around for 100 years? PCR testing only indicates a fragment exists on the swab. It does not indicate whether or not you are sick. Furthermore, if you are sick, it does not prove that Covid-19 is what’s making you sick. Add-in false positives and over cycling it becomes clear PCR is a very poor way to diagnose for disease. Which is exactly why Kary Mullis was against its use for such.

( Would you refuse to believe your friend if he informed you he just found out he was adopted because he didn't know who his birth parents are?)
