US policy for years has been hegemonic and Russia has always been the biggest boogeymen since its Revolution of 1917-18 when it overthrew the monarchy and the feudal serf system. It is a huge country and quite focused on its sovereignty. Where smaller countries are not able to withstand the US threats and bribery against their independence, Russia and China have learned their lessons and refuse to be subordinate to the US. Given American hubris, it is not surprising that the US instigated the bruhaha in Ukraine but blames Russia. How many times can you poke a bear before it rises up against you!

Nobody is driving Russia & China together. They have been partners since Stalin funded the Mao revolution and they cooperated in the staged artillery exchanges that were part of getting Nixon to pursue his China opening (simple good cop bad cop scripting). The largest military exercises ever took place a couple of years ago between these two powers. Part of these communist (Yes, I am calling Russia as communist as when it was the USSR) powers' success has been due to the West's perception of them as antagonists. We are so easy to dupe.
