It is bull shit to say that placebo controlled trials are not necessary to understand the safety of vaccines and the corollary retort is that it would be unethical is also bull shit. The incidence of vaccine preventable disease is so low in this country that each and every one can be tested against placebo ( a true inert placebo. And the studies should be long term. No vaccine component should be required until these are done; parents and/or patients should be able to opt in or opt out of getting each vaccine as they deem appropriate for their child or themselves. No vaccine should get approval before analysis after 5 years minimum (typically it has been 4-6 years before the late failures of measles, mumps, rubella, and chickenpox were noted). And then at least 20 years until full approval, AND that should be conditional with review every 5-10 years looking for late effects. AND no Mandatory vaccines for the general population, and for military while it may be prudent to require some vaccination, there should be a compensation fund for veterans should they develop a complication of the required vaccinations.
That wasn't hard. Made this policy up off the top of my head based on current and past knowledge of vaccines and complication known and suspected.
Feel free to add, subtract, divide, multiply, contradict or offer alternative suggestions.
I would love for the choice to come down to Kennedy or Trump.
