The C-17 was a step in that direction . The AF cut flight crew from 2 pilots & 1-2 flight engineers and 2 loadmasters in the previous cargo jet the C-141, and the C-17 has 2 pilots no flight engineer and 1 loadmaster thanks to the technology so no doubt the pilotless aircraft is probably in the future.
