TRUDI GALLOWAY [addressing the camera]: This is my testimony and I'm going to read it to you.
Hi Abi, I'm sending this email so you can share my story with whoever will listen. You know my story. My son Benjamin took his life during lockdown 2020 aged 25.
Benjamin lived in Yorkshire. He had planned to visit his family in Leicestershire for Easter that year, however, lockdown prevented him from doing so. Leicestershire's regional lockdown again scuppered more plans of a visit. Ben was found dead in a local park on the 14th of July, 2020 [overcome with emotion] Excuse me.
I strongly believe that lockdown contributed greatly to my son's suicide. He was isolated from his loved ones. He adored his family in Leicestershire. At the funeral were 18 people, all socially distanced, which made the service cold. There was not the send-off my son deserved, not by a long shot.
I do blame the government, especially knowing that they deliberately flouted rules and with no regard whatsoever for the people. If my son and I had broken the rules, I may have had extra precious time with him. Things may have turned out differently. I'll never know.
So many people have lost loved ones to suicide during lockdown, yet this again has never been spoken about or even acknowledged by the government.
Lockdowns must never, ever happen again.
Can I also thank you for all the great stuff you do, Abi, you are a breath of fresh air, you really are. Thanks for your support.
