In 2014 frustrated with attempts to get more African Americans and Latinos into the field/ training the Obama administration changed the exam to make it easier for some minorities to qualify for training with some questions like "how many sports did you play in college"?
Obama: Completely changed the experience qualifications for controllers; no whites with aviation experience sums it up. Biden: Put Butt-The-Judge in charge of DOT. This whole mess wreaks of their handiwork.
The solution is obvious in the near term. Do what Reagan did after he fired the whole workforce in the 80s. Integrate military controllers into the FAA facilities with the worst shortages. My husband was one of those military controllers and he spent over a year on TDY at Ft Lauderdale Airport. The FAA has known this shortage was coming since the 90s and they have done little to fix the problem. One thing that really screwed up the agency was when Clinton had them stop recruiting military controllers into the FAA in preference for recruiting women and minorities out of colleges. A college education offers absolutely nothing to the job skills required to be a controller but this is where the agency recruits from. As for the crazy work schedule, it has been that way since my husband started in the FAA in the 80s......nothing new there. It is a very rare person who can do that job and unfortunately the FAA has hired people who are marginal, in their efforts to promote women and minorities. A female tower supervisor who was incompetent and outright dangerous was removed from the tower and PROMOTED to an office adminstrative position because the FAA won't fire women and minorities. The agency had a program in the 90s called Train to Succeed which should have been called Keep Recycling Incompetent Trainees Until They Squeak By. It got so bad that my husband refused to train anymore. He wouldn't sign off on trainees who didn't really meet the requirements, but they found others who would do it. I would rather drive than fly a thousand miles because I know too much. And now we have to worry about pilots and controllers having heart attacks on the job since they all took the death shot.
Why not run it into the ground, the elite don't fly commercial anyway, can you blame them.
They simply want us dead, airliner collisions work as well as the shot, or any other methods. Afraid to fly is the answer, oh, it won't happen to me, then it does.
