You nailed it: "conflicted grant money", and the desire for more grant money, is why these things are ignored by academics. You could use the same logic with Climate Change. And as long as the narrative is controlled by media/Big Tech/government, only the bravest will sacrifice and step up ~ as you have.

From the top, it was an intentional winnowing of those with critical thinking skills, those not buying into the false narrative. Those outliers will not be offered reinstatement as that would dilute their pool of obedient acolytes, and would jeopardize the influx of bribe money.
