I also blame the parents for not being very attentive to them during this time! So many parents have their heads up their ass! They care more about themselves then their children. I left and went to work with adolescents. One kid has never left my mind. He was around 16, looked about 14. His parents kicked him out, his boyfriend's family took him in, but isolated him;
I gave him the biggest hug ever. We both ended up in tears, because no one would even get near him. Just a kid.

My granddaughter, who was 15 at the time, attempted suicide last year. Thankfully, she didn't succeed and she is getting the care she needs. On an aside, she was also being identity "groomed" by an older girl and that added to the overall covid induced fear and anxiety. Her parents also removed her from that environment and we're hoping that the private school she now attends will be better for her overall well-being.

My granddaughter who was 16 at the time also attempted suicide during the lockdowns. She was cut off from her friends for too long and didn’t know how to deal with it. Thankfully her parents got her the help she needed and she is better now.
My neighbors 15 year old daughter hung herself in their garage. Very sad. I can't even imagine. I have kids. How does one go on with life after. I try to put myself in their shoes. I would be broken. They sent her to Hasbro Children's hospital in RI. They tried so hard. They kept her on life support for about a week. They have very good doctors there, but it was not enough. Very sad. My own daughter was very depressed also. She suffers from depression also. When her college in Boston kicked them out, she came back home. She was absolutely loving college. She loved her life in Boston. She loved living in the Fenway area. I think it was the best time of her life. Her roommate became a very close friend. She was on top of the world. Discovering who she was. Even with her manic depressive condition, she was thriving. Then they were all kicked out. She was devastated. He roommate friend went back to Texas. My daughter came back home. We have a very stable and happy home, but she does suffer from depression sometimes. It nearly destroyed her. We got her help. Of course, with the pandemic, the therapy could only be online. It did help her through it all. She is back in school again. She switched to Northeastern Univ. She has made new close friends there. But if another shit show pandemic happens again, we are afraid what it will do to her. Manic depression is a condition. It is real. My neighbors daughter had it also, and it was too much for her. She also had a very good home. I imagine that many / most of the suicides we're with young adults who have this and the extreme measures that were forced on them pushed them over the edge.

I think those statistics are grossly underreported, just like VAERS. Before I left my PICU job In December 2021, there were at least 5-7 pre-teens and teens each week between Peds ED and the PICU that came in with suicidal ideation or attempts. This began in April 2020-December 2021. I had worked there for 38 years and we NEVER saw that many before. I really felt bad for the parents, even though some were slackers. My point of view was that we as adults struggled greatly during the lockdowns and we had developed coping skills due to life experiences. These kids were jerked away from everything familiar, and while they might have soldiered on before, there was much less chance of that happening because they had not developed good coping skills. I did see more girls than boys, but that’s because the girls usually tried to OD. Sadly, the boys were more successful with firearms or hanging. Walking past the rooms with grieving families at the bedside was often more than I could bear.
I think when you grow up being told you need to change your body to look a certain way instead of the fact that you are perfectly and wonderfully made in the image of God it sets girls in general up to have low self worth. Kids are being taught to hate who they are but if you do this this and this then you will have the fantasy life the world promises. A mirage that disappears as you get closer to it
there's an old saying: "men commit murder; women commit suicide." i would expect this to apply to boys and girls as well. it would be interesting to see if the murder rate, or at the very least the acting out, getting into trouble and crime rates, among teenage boys and girls went up in inverse percentages to the rise in suicide rates
