I always had the impression that Birx was more amenable to the focused protection strategy but somehow Fauci won the debate. I think politicians like to be seen to be doing as much as they can. Telling people that there isn't much to be done, we have to allow things to run their course, never seems to go over well with people. They will always scream that we must DO more. DO, DO, DO. Just DO something. That makes people feel better. It's wrong but allowing things to run their course is always a hard sell to the people. Most smart people are very naive about just how stupid the vast majority of people are.
