Is non-consent possible when someone is a lot older & the other is a teenager e.g. 16 & younger? I think YES, someone under 16 cannot vote etc. & are highly vulnerable to older persons (man or woman)
I do think that age of consent should be examined if someone is 15/16 & the other person is 35; I am not one for legislating morality etc. but there is a power imbalance that could be abusive, harmful
Even if something is currently legal, does not mean it is not exploitive! Young persons e.g. 15 and 16 and 17 year olds in relations with near similar aged persons is very different than being involved with someone 25 and 30 years older. I do think one (the junior) is being overwhelmed and exploited and is highly vulnerable (to make optimal informed decisions especially emotionally) in that situation.
Point is the relationship is ‘not equal’. Make sure we understand that. That young persons understand that. Can we make it illegal? Is this something for the courts or society?
This happens when social norms are shattered. In the past it was understood across the board that this was exploitation and social pressure was exerted to put an end to it.
Doesn’t take much to wonder what is on the minds much less the agenda of ‘lawmakers’ who sought and attained to change the age of consent to 16 like in Commiefornia with the usual suspect championing the legislation then the mentally I’ll Weiner. I am sure if someone did a deep dive into that individuals history there would be many youthful skeletons in his ‘closet.’ What’s amazing to me is people like Weiner get traction with this BS and the pushback has been minimal. Begs the question what in God’s name is going on. In the state of CA in their own Education Code they state a child’s brain does not reach adulthood until the mid twenties. They do not even adhere to their own codes that equals insanity
