‘SAN FRANCISCO — The school bus was displaying its stop sign and flashing red warning lights, a police report said, when Tillman Mitchell, 17, stepped off one afternoon in March.
True for any EV but does that explain the self driving function? Who wants this? All I read and hear are complaints. Who wants a self driving vehicle? There are those who think they want an EV, but they just are not thinking it through, but while there must be a few, most do not want self driving vehicles an the road.
Perhaps some people think it will prolong their independence if they have slightly failing eyesight, cognitive ability, or muscle ability. Personally I've adopted a healthy diet and lifestyle to prolong healthspan, since there are so many positive side-effects.
I am sure there are a few who see it this way, but there are minuscule in number, far outnumbered by those who see this as a disaster in the making and against it. Yet, they are pushing it through anyway. So much for democracy, eh?
I'd have to guess it's the age-old answer: expectation of big profit. I can imagine many wealthy enough to purchase one wanting it as a new toy to impress their 'frenemies.'
Keep the Salt Water away ; Hurricane Ian caused billions of dollars in damage when it hit Florida in the fall of 2022. Along with $112 billion in damages, 152 fatalities, and countless uprooted lives, the fallout included at least 12 electric vehicle fires caused from lithium-ion batteries coming into contact with saltwater flooding in from the ocean. Unlike standard fires, however, these battery blazes require a significant amount more water to quell them due to their unique chemical reactions, with the International Association of Fire Chiefs suggesting somewhere between 3,000 and 8,000 gallons of sustained dousing.
There have been a rash of Lithium Ion battery fires in all sorts of devices since they were introduced--ebikes, toys, phones, scooters, you name it. Most of those Lithium Ion batteries are made in China, I believe. Their quality control is terrible and everyone knows it.
But in the rush to make Big Buck$$$ from LiIon-powered products, all that is conveniently ignored.
Tesla's autopilot has been having problems for some time. I remember some time ago it couldn't distinguish between a white panel truck and the white sky, causing another accident. Yet another example of releasing technology before it has been adequately tested.
This same lackadaisical, sloppy Cowboy attitude without fully considering the consequences or doing adequate safety testing permeates the whole AI industry, IMO.
We're all in Deep Crap unless we force them to slow down and accept public oversight.
Meanwhile, far away in D.C. land, Congress as usual is still asleep, uninformed, and hapless.
I still do not see any utility in autonomous vehicles that could under any circumstances out weigh the hazards they pose regardless of how much testing they have been put through.
Interesting point. I just read an article about EMF in Teslas and was highly unimpressed. Sure, the car is loaded with tech that is equivalent to a couple laptops and a few cell phones, but to me the most likely EMF for concern would not be those nor the battery, but rather the main electric motor(s) that power an electric vehicle. I'd be interested to see some data on that.
That's not an autopilot problem, that's a human driver problem. Autopilot is not supposed to operate on it's own because it won't do everything right every time. The driver is supposed to be paying attention and take over when they notice something wrong.
Estimates vary, but according to a study from AAA, EVs can lose about 40% of their range when the temperature drops from 75 degrees to 20 degrees Fahrenheit.Dec 13, 2022. For example, an EV with a rated range of 250 miles would have only 150 miles of range when it’s 20 degrees outside.
Well don't laugh then Bandit, as yes it's a sad scenario to be sure especially if it's true in UK that you could be charged in a gas car for the crimes she claims.
There are many comedians that would set something like this up in the UK, though I've not confirmed that possibility, it has the appearance of that. So I'll ask my expat friend in Holland who I rented a room from in the UK while stationed there in the USAF many years back, who sure thought is was hilarious. He sends most comical type stuff to me, along with benny hill type stuff which is not uncommon for older English people of either gender who found him hilarious too, and of course is politically incorrect now.
I won't apologize if it offended you though, as I think exposing this type of behavior is important and all should be aware of it.
I don't find the post offensive. I find that woman offensive. I've put with more than enough people like that. I do find it odd that he was running the engine, (Maybe for air conditioning?) since their range is limited and it takes forever to charge them.
I'm glad of that, and yes she was offensive. I've never encountered one myself yet but I've been kind of isolated the past several years having cared for my mom. I hope I never have to, so sorry for you having had to.
As she mentioned he had a kid in the back seat that makes sense. and yes he was hilarious and wish I had tapes of his shows. Screw PC is right!
Truth be known, even without the silliness of autopilot, EV's are extremely destructive to the planet. Would you want your kids or grand kids or great grand kids working in the lithium mines or digging for other toxic metals? If not, then why are African children forced to do it?
How do you recycle these 1,000 pound monsters? Aren't the EVer's usually all about global warming and recycling every little plastic bottle cap? Outside of fake vaccines, EVs are the next biggest boondoggle that mankind's stupidity has invented.
Curious of the ratio of accidents to cars driven for the human driven cars. My bet is the ratio for the autopilot driven cars Is way lower and will be going down.
The crash ratio is much lower because there are so few of these beasts on the roads. Imagine a roadway filled with hundreds or thousands of EVs and someone hacks into one of them.
Dangerous to humans and an environmental hazard.
The left can stuff their electric death machines.
They can drive all of them off the edge of the flat earth they believe in.
I’ll stick to my gas power old school vehicle thank you very much.
Who wants this? Why are they pushing this?
Because they can turn it off at will, unlike the gasoline engine.

Because auto-pilot also means, disable your transportation or drive you to the quarantine camp all on it's own.
The second one is unique to vehicles equipped with it but they first can already be done.
Exactly.
I'd have to guess it's the age-old answer: expectation of big profit. I can imagine many wealthy enough to purchase one wanting it as a new toy to impress their 'frenemies.'

We need another Ralph Nader for our times.
We looked into getting a power box but the batteries are unstable and we dont want to keep it in the house in case it starts on fire

Hello? Are there any adults in the room there?
If they are using microsoft software, look out.
The Inmates are Running the Asylum

Think about the radiation these ridiculous cars give off, nothing like riding in a microwave on wheels, lol 😝.

Kind of like a plane's autopilot...
Then why use autopilot? Are drivers becoming that lazy?
Yes. Why use cruise control?
Yes, people are THAT lazy.
Given the continuous coverage about Tesla's Autopilot feature, it is clear that the feature is misnamed and users are too stupid.
EV's don't like cold ;

Well I'm not sure about tesla, but apparently it doesn't matter to the looney's among us, have a good laugh at this, we all need one now and again!
But lady...it's electric?

I don't find that funny at all. A self important, ignorant, slimeball threatening a person, because THEY are ignorant. Not funny.

Imagine that!! Who knew Mr. Freedom creation was going to kill humans and the planet 🌎 🧠🐒= 🤖
YA KNOW THIS IS A LIFE OR DEATH WAR ON GOOD CITIZENS SO UNITE TO STOP THEM BY ANY MEANS = GOD BLESS AMERICA LAND OF THE FREE

Imagine someone hacking into nuke power station 🤯 Yet …
Came to say this.
People making error and causing harm = retribution.
Agorithitms?
