I am very honored and privileged to meet this man, what a hero, what a remarkable patriot of Canada, veteran; I will sit with him in parliament, and over next 3 days; may go to Question Period?
I pray there is an end to all border mandates. I pray you and Mr. Topp are able to get across how much border mandates are hurting binational families on both sides of border. Family needs to have the ability to see each other like they did pre covid. Two plus year separation is taking a huge toll on families.
i’m not sure if sure if you are being serious or rubbing salt in my wounds as many have been cruel during this but there are many of us who live along the border who decided not to take the vaccine and can no longer freely cross the border. i have not crossed since march 2020. i have not seen my family since then. i am a us citizen/permanent resident of canada living in a border town. my mother, sister, brother, nieces and nephews live 15 miles away but i can not go see them due to quarantine rules upon re entry to Canada.
they are not allowed to enter Canada at all as they are unvaccinated. For years we used to freely cross back and forth to each other’s houses. all gone.
Chris! How could you even THINK that I was NOT being serious?!? "Rubbing salt in the wound?" I don't think you read (or, actually, understood) my very real concern! And even though your own family situation is "unique," to say the least, it is very REAL to you and yours; and until this vaccine insanity was meted out to all of us, your life - and your relatively free, cross-border movement - was never in question! Of course, it's all SO insane; but, God willing, these wretched mandates will finally be lifted. In the meantime, however, I guess you and your family have the ugly burden of "coping" with this insanity. I wish you nothing but the best and a swift resolution to your totally unmerited family "separation!"
thank you. you would not believe the hate and vitriol i have received for refusing to fall in line with the mandates. ridiculed and told to just do it if i want to see them. that isn’t freedom to me. doing something to gain freedom doesn’t make sense to me. freedom is free. it isn’t contingent on taking a shot i don’t want or need. people are cruel. i’m sorry for misunderstanding your comment. i was unaware that after 2 plus years, the reality of family separation along the border is not a known thing by all. obviously government on both sides of the border is blind to it as Canada ended family reunification measures and the USA never had any (at the northern border anyways).

my sister is a breast cancer survivor and her oncologist told her no way is she to take a covid vaccine. they also all had delta way back in October 2020 an survived without incident and no, they are American and believe in freedom and don’t bow down to the whim of government.
I asked bc it seemed to be a one way street, not towards you.
I guess it depends on the oncologist and the cancer as many survivors and those still in treatment did take the vax with the very good result of no or mild COVID. I do hope your sister took and continues to take precautions to not contract COVID.
Your family all had delta? I'm glad they are ok but we still have COVID. 11 people died in BC yesterday, 17 in Alberta, Ont 2. This is omicron, the "not so bad" variant. The point being, COVID is still with us.
It's a personal thing. But still you must know as a perm resident and I suppose maybe a Can citizen in the future the rules were made for good reasons (even if you don't agree with them) and we are, as a community, expected to follow them, on both sides of the border.
You must have see the stats...2 million + dead in the US, 64% vaccine rate (2 jabs) which is terribly low. 6 million dead in the world and the US, the most powerful nation on the planet contributed a third of that total. The first vaccines came out of the US. Why do you think there was so much resistance? (83% vacccinated in Canada, 42,000 deaths) The numbers talk.
You say you are near the border and your family is 15 miles away. I am relatively close to the border and my home state, NY, is on the border too. The same rules apply to me expect that I have to fly to get there, the drive is just too long tho we have done it. I have seen my family, tho not in the last couple of months, The airports are insane! The big difference is that we are all vaccinated. 2 of us recently caught COVID, probably from one of the kids, but after 5 or 6 days it was done. Less awful than the flu, slightly worse than allergies.
I am simply glad that I live in a country that made the vaccines freely and quickly available. I've had many vaccines over the years, the latest being tetanus (if you can't remember when you last had that shot, you need to get a booster (normally 1 jab every 10 yrs)) and I am not the least bit concerned about bizarre effects years down the road.
We all do things to gain freedom, to extend our freedom if you will. You decided to move to Canada agreeing to follow the rules as they are set out. Luckily the rules aren't tremendously different for the most part on both sides. Some of those rules are hard and fast. A lot are not. Not long ago you'd be busted for your pot. Now, no biggy. But you don't smoke it in the mall or while picking up the kids from school. We are all responsible, I hope, adults. We are all in it together. Getting the vaccines as a way to fight disease is not a removal of freedom. Far from it. You chose to exercise your sense of freedom by not being jabbed. But even though you are restricted in some ways you can't reasonably expect everyone else to accommodate you as frustrating as that is.
Mandates for the most part are provincial. The fed ones are international travel, working in a fed office, etc. Not getting into a restaurant, or a sports venue, etc without a passport proving your vax status is reasonable especially during a global pandemic. One I will point out we haven't had in 100 years. Every day was a new learning curve. Mistakes were made, of course, but a lot was learned. Hopefully, come fall, we are all not hit by yet a new variant that is truly awful.
Not sure how I found my way into this substack. Probably the James-Topp header. He will not make any difference to anything unless he's planing to run as a Conservative in a few years. In the meantime PP and the rest while have photo-ops. No one likes the mandates. No one said, "oh good, I'll miss hockey season again." It's unfortunate that some people, nurses, truckers, etc were let go or put on leave but that was their choice. Especially the truckers. They knew for months about being vaxxed or quarantined. Months! They did nothing. Call an MLA or MP or start a petition? Nothing. But they occupied Ottawa for 3 weeks? But some of them made good money off that convoy. Nurses seems a no brainer. I would not have liked a possible disease vector looking after me and mine in a hospital. Hospitals are full of sick people to begin with and what incredible disrespect to all the healthcare workers who did vax and carried a tremendous load for a hell of a long time. So his walk got a bit of PR. Not as much as hoped for.
Last thing. Paul Alexander is ... I'm trying to not be rude ... a fraud, a quack ...

Is he an actual doctor? 50% graduated at the bottom of their class so there is that. EBM!! I bet he still holds on to Hydrochlriquin (sp?) tablets for friends.
Everyone bows down to gov. You know that. If not the feds, then the states, provinces or municipalities or family. All down the line. Hierarchies are a human condition. That's the way it's set up to give us the most individual freedoms. When you/me don't like it, we vote (except in families).

my cancer survivor sister had covid. delta. unvaccinated. she had a slightly stuffy nose. was shocked when her test came back positive as she wasn’t sick but was exposed like the rest of the family. my covid was without symptoms. i had a slightly hung over feeling for a day.
it’s all good. this moment is all i got and currently i’m sitting on my pool deck in a towel waiting for a bit more of darkness so i can go for a swim. my feet are in the water and i may just say heck with it and go for it, darkness or not. 🤣
