4am Very common though. Jogging before work. My neighbors youngish wives jog but with dogs and walking sticks, most of the time two girls with five dogs.

My dad was NYPD. Growing up he always told me to defend myself, not put myself in vulnerable positions etc. He always told me to try and punch hard for the throat. Collapse the trachea, disable the airway. then he said go for the eyes disable their sight. He warned me against kicking in the nuts, doesn’t always work and can make matters worse. If you can’t carry a gun, carry a sharp object. I now tell my daughter never leave the primary scene, scream and make a scene. I say if someone is pointing a gun at you let them shoot, you have a better chance of surviving that than being forced into a vehicle where you will most likely die anyway, but be tortured as well. It is a sad world that we have to have these conversations with our children.
Sadly, these types of attacks are nothing new. We just have better access to information now. I was a LEO for 25-years and was teaching women smart defense classes back in the late 80’s/early 90’s. My advice now would be to NEVER LEAVE YOUR HOME UNARMED. And don’t rely on pepper spray or mace. I’ve emptied full cans on men and have had zero negative reaction. Get a gun. Learn to use it. Never leave your home without it. And if you live in a state where lawful gun ownership/personal carry is difficult...MOVE.
