I was just reading it that the microbe is present in soil - I was on leprosymission.org and then checked some literature.
As we know it is it's mostly about better nutrition, sanitation, etc., and early treatment. It did have some pictures of some presentations of leprosy on people and it could be missed for a while. It also explained it takes YEARS - isn't that interesting? -for leprosy to manifest.
Perhaps gators 🐊 are also carriers.
