I hadn't heard about this incident but read the report and watched the video at your link. I appreciate that, in Lauren Boebert's public apology, she is quoted as stating: "I simply fell short of my values on Sunday. That's unacceptable and I'm sorry."

I was surprised to learn that at Boebert, 36, was married at 18, had four children and was already a grandmother. Having heard her speak at CPAC, I already knew she is rough around the edges but, it seems, sincere in her political convictions and effective at promoting them in Congress.

I'm embarrassed for her behavior in the theatre. (I agree with you that too much alcohol may be a factor.) Her boyfriend looks attractive and may be a Dem but he's not a politician. I doubt they're discussing politics, except for the fame and attention it brings them. (I believe I read he's a restaurant owner, acc. to the report.)

What shocked me most was that they (and everyone else) were surveilled on camera in the theatre, as they were escorted out, and also as they walked privately down deserted public streets, as we all would have been in the same district. That is ridiculously intrusive. However, the uninvited glimpse we got into the interactions of Boebert and date strolling alone holding hands was very cute. You can tell they are smitten with each other.

Yes I too was surprised that she is already a grandmother at 36. I don't think sny less of her. In fact, consistent with research on the effect of pecadilloes on perceptions of others, it makes her more likeable (except to 'other oriented' maladaptive perfectionists, of whom there are, unfortunately, quite a few.) I agree about the intrusive surveillance. It's really none of anybody else's business what she was doing. It's not as if she was a president's son smoking a crackpipe or is Eric Swalwell sleeping with Chinese agents.

I don't think less of her for marrying young either. In some families and towns it's the norm.

After this experience, though, I believe Boebert will be more private about her post-divorce escapades. I wish her happiness and stability so she can do the best possible job in Congress without unnecessary distractions from criticism about her private life.
