Interesting article. Just a few days ago, my sister and I took a tour of our downtown. I’ve got to say I was literally gobsmacked at what I saw. All those empty office buildings are not going to waste and my conspiracy theorist radar was screaming 🙀. These buildings are being converted into 15 minute, “Stack-n-Shacks!
With a whopping 290 square foot living spaces!
If you think for a second this as not planned, your living on another planet.
What’s even scarier, is that they are hiding nothing. It’s blatant in your face.
Downsizing and making the local community/extended neighborhood strong is a plan for surviving the crisis we find ourselves seeking ways to manage.
The ideas expressed by some of the 'experts' is the cities in the MidWest need to make themselves more attractive. Attractive for whom? The 'glitter and glitz' is all superficial. The small towns, to my understanding, made the MidWest a place capable of self-sustaining behavior. People in 'big cities' are isolated, not really knowing their neighbors and depending on a fragile supply chain to keep the city from devolving into chaos.
Most of the cities mentioned have problems of crime, addicts & homeless, and certain ethnic groups. The big high-rises should be torn down and two-story, owner-financed houses with yards and police security can build a new middle-class.
Those are, in my opinion, being built as I type this.
I live is a small, somewhat rural town with a few McMansion subdivisions on former farmland. Honor system farm product stands dot the landscape. Acres of fields, acres of crops, livestock, a place in tune with the seasons as farming requires.
What I see in the cities, ( a couple of small cities sit in the middle of these more rural communities) is a proliferation of stick-built-in-progress multiple unit dwellings which, in my opinion, far exceed the normal growth needs for residential space. Further, these are, again in my opinion, warehouses for humans.
My concern, voiced at appropriate times, is they are being built for the illegal population. The area does not need this much 'new housing', also, I would not call it 'family friendly'.
When I use the term 'warehousing' this is what I see: a storage place for people to be stored until needed for some purpose.
I hate to look at the future through a black cloud, but can't help it. 7 million people (that's the guess), have to go somewhere. Cities can't handle it. Too, if the people have come from dire poverty, any shack will do as a roof, they may have no skills, they have to send their kids to school so Spanish speaking teachers will be needed, plus ones with other foreign language skills. The thought I have, it eliminates the food producers and the chances of a good education for our kids. Starve people to death. My thoughts on the purpose? Get their votes, then ditch them into the dirt pile.
