They should have never done this and should have lifted the mandates immediately as per the Feds. What's worse? Not only does it appear that those suspended without pay are not going to receive back-pay but are being required to remit to Canada Post, their contributions to CPP (the Canada Pension Plan... Employee contribution part)! This without having received any salary for almost a year! They should get back-pay WITH INTEREST, and Canada Post should pay the whole CPP portion. This is pure evil.

From some reading I believe the smallpox lost it virulence and was difficult to distinguish from chicken pox by lay people. I wonder if that was true?
