As I am wont to do there are clues in scriptures and especially in prophecies if we look hard enough to see the connections. In Revelation there are "vials" signifying plagues, deaths, etc and I know in one instance there was a vial when opened would kill a large percentage of the Earth with disease.

I would not be surprised at the "gain of function" adding serious issues to any current venereal diseases and you can be sure these would spread rapidly world wide. Genetic manipulation could easily make venereal or regular child hood diseases terminal killers.
The people able to make this happen are amongst us now.
