The Californians moved to Seattle because they couldn't afford housing in California. So Seattleites, while vilifying the "californicators" (as they called them), also took advantage by escalating their own prices for housing, for which they also blamed Californians. That's when I knew I didn't belong in Seattle - the relocating Californians were treated with such animosity although they looked exactly like the Seattleites. I realized that having a different ethnicity in Seattle, although they were more covert with their bigotry, did not stand me in good stead. It motivated me to move back to the east coast and have lived semi-happily ever after. Don't miss Seattle at all. And it's true. It once was a beautiful city. It's been totally destroyed both by too much and too little money.
Pictures look like they are straight out of the 2009 movie District 9. It's where Aliens visited us and we made them live in places that look just like these pictures. Abhorrent, unbelievable.

Kensington Ave in the late80s and early 90s was a bit rough on the edges, but a vibrant commercial working class area. I would love to understand the history of its erosion and the local and federal policies that contributed to its tragic demise.
Yes. My husband is a Seattle FF in Capital Hill. Homeless calls are a huge percentage of their calls these days and have been now for years! I used to love Seattle. It was clean, city was safe when I first moved here in 1996. Now, I avoid going to Seattle at all costs. I'm about 30 miles out from the city and dread if/when I have to go in. My husband and I went in for a Dr. appointment recently and it was the first time I had gone in months. I joked that we are entering the "hell-hole." No joke, we literally witnessed a knife fight heading down James St. One had a knife, and the other we think was hiding a gun. Right in the middle of the street. Called police but they are so overwhelmed. The 911 operator actually asked us if WE thought police needed to come! My husband is in the thick of it daily with his work.
Yes Russia is bad, Ukraine needed 40 billion. Transactions like this are really a big paydays for Congress and their financial backers. Fuck places like Seattle.
