I have been in a classroom in a former life, as a locum, when a young, about 9 year old male minority background student began destroying a classroom and I was powerless to do anything. As I note below, I watched a student destroy a classroom and was powerless to do anything. It was a few years ago. After the incident, in which he left a female teacher bleeding, the school rewarded him by sending him out to play soccer. It was a Catholic school which I was visiting for the first time in another role, not as a teacher. If the kids are from.a minority background or special needs, all the excuses in the world are made for their violent and antisocial behavior. In fact, their behavior is rewarded, and it is a basic principle of operant conditioning that behavior that is rewarded tends to increase in frequency.

We don't know how far away the old, frail-looking male teacher was when the real or wannabe female began her vicious assault. The male teacher is not visible until toward the end of the picture. We don't know if has a disability that limited his movement, a pacemaker or whatever. He looks like one punch could have killed him. Why didn't any of the strapping young, athletic girls that would surely have been in the classroom race in to help save the female teacher? Why is the onus always on the male? Yes, I had that thought too. The male teacher looks frail. Possibly he was weaker than the female teacher. We don't know how far away he's come from. I have been in a classroom in a former life, as a locum, when a young, about 9 year old male minority background student began destroying a classroom and I was powerless to do anything. A female visiting liaison teacher who I was accompanying had to do a take down, in which the boy drew blood from her. If I had laid one finger on that boy I would have been up on charges. If that male teacher had touched the "girl," the "girl" would have become the victim and the state and the justice system would have probably jailed him, while letting the student walk free after a stern talking to and admonition not to do it again.

After the incident, in which he left a female teacher bleeding, the school rewarded him by sending him out to play soccer. It was a Catholic school which I was visiting for the first time in another role, not as a teacher. If the kids are from.a minority background or special needs, all the excuses in the world are made for their violent and antisocial behavior. In fact, their behavior is rewarded, and it is a basic principle of operant conditioning that behavior that is rewarded tends to increase in frequency.

They implemented a “restorative justice” program right before I retired where the victim and the perp sit in a circle and talk about their feelings and the perp says “sorry” and gets to go back to the classroom. I can only say that in the 27 years I taught, Autism and behavior disorders were on the rise and in mostly males. Then over the years I saw it crossed every race creed and color.
