Remdesivir was originally formulated and used in the 2002 SARS virus outbreak and showed very poor results, and then again for Ebola in which it was completely ineffective in fighting the virus. In a massive study it was shown to be completely ineffective against Covid 19 in hospitalized patients. In November 2020, despite the WHO declaring it should not be used in treating Covid patients, the FDA approved it’s use for such in children & adults over 12.
Remdesivir, which is toxic to the kidneys can result in renal failure, was approved to be used in the US with dexamethasone for Covid. It gained the nickname “Run death is near” when administered to ventilated & sedated patients, often in conjunction with midazolam and morphine.
I never cared for any patients who were hospitalized & placed in ICU for Covid and were treated with these medications, but I do know of 2 people in my community, under the age of 50 who were otherwise healthy being treated for Covid pneumonia who never made it home from the hospital. Just last month a friend who cared for a special needs client with Down syndrome informed me he had passed away from Covid pneumonia, same scenario.
And still there are people in high places advocating for its use.
