Those dumb fucks are sitting ducks waiting to be replaced entirely by automation.

yes automation will damage us and them and those who call for it are deranged

It already exists. Many containers are being moved by automated equipment. Videos can be found online.

By their outrageous wage demands the dock workers and their leadership are just BEGGING to be replaced by automation. Could it be that their union leaders have been incentivized toward this outcome?

Ask not that he wants a 77% raise, ask why we are in this position. Offshoring. When all these commodities are made in China rather than St. Louis, Cleveland, Buffalo and Cincinnati, someone has to unload them. If they don't, they can "cripple" us. Ports are owned by ......... China, Qatar, Saudi. Longshoremen aren't demanding a raise from you, they're demanding a raise from them. We need Trump tariffs and manufacturing back. And before arguing that a raise to longshoremen raises the price to you, it didn't happen with Trump tariffs. Prices did not rise, inflation was low and didn't eat into everyone's pocket. Lay the blame where it belongs, with Democrat voters, all of them. Bad things like this happen when your neighbor or family member votes Democrat.

Greedy dock workers work against American Manufacturing Companies as they import disposable society trash that puts US Companies out of business. I get multiple auction notices daily. We use to get over 350 RFQs for metal stampings for miniature electronics. Lately, nothing but DOD sub contract quotes...

Congress.gov literally has most of the answers recorded by Stenographers so any American can look online to read about any major policy vote by Members of House or Senate. Recorded as Yeah or Nay votes. You just have to figure out where to look or what you are looking for. Keywords are a must.

The comment here is straightforward. History is filled with examples of abuses that made unions necessary. If unions were run honestly, with integrity and morals, they are a good thing that benefits everyone. But we know what happened shortly thereafter.

Unions had "leaders" that either were already corrupt, or became corrupt with the power they acquired (power *always* corrupts!). They began abusing that power, enriching themselves in the process.

Today, most unions benefit primarily the people that run them. Those at the top have weaponized the 'power of the unions' to threaten and to coerce.

The present longshoremen situation is just another example of that. When they get what they want, we the people will end up paying the bill - as we always do - with higher prices at the checkout counter.

We can add that increase to what the government is doing continuously to us via inflation and taxes.

There is *NO* good ending to the position we're in.

He's a criminal and what he's doing is obviously coercion. Can't he be prosecuted for that somehow?

Expand full comment

*Can* he be prosecuted? Yes. *Will* he be prosecuted? No, not likely.

Consider Joe Biden. *Can* he be prosecuted? Absolutely. *Will* that happen? Nah!

Also, Jamie Dimon (JP Morgan Chase Bank). *Can* he be prosecuted? You know the rest.

Sadly and tragically, we are presently living in a lawless country, where if you have the 'connections' or are a 'made man', you can quite literally get away with *ANYTHING*, including the theft of billions (e.g., Jamie Dimon), mass murder (think 9/11 or the covid jabs), national treason (think the Clinton Crime Duo or Obama), or any other crime.

That answers your question.

Jorge, as I was reading your reply I was trying to I think of what prompted me to ask such a ridiculous question. Seriously. I think it was because of how brazen and out in the open his extortion attempt is. But then, as you so accurately pointed out, the criminality of the people you pointed out, and how easily they got away with it and continue to get away with it, is just as obvious. I must have momentarily forgotten that we've been living in "Crime Central" for decades now. Thanks for the reminder.

Deja vu! After the so called Romanian “revolution”, the government used the miners Union to devastate Bucharest, harming citizens and small businesses, destroying public places. Do unions really represent the workers? Based on what know, not. But served the interests of one group on demand. 🙃 Threatening a country’s economy should be punished by law in my personal opinion.

I watched these type of union bosses destroy meat packing jobs in the 70s. Union workers were earning 5 times the average wage and yet demanded more. The companies shut down, fired them all, and it's been a minimum wage job with mostly foreign workers since.

Can the next POTUS just fire all the port workers, let private entities bid on the various ports, and operate them? They can bring their crew from wherever and keep the profits. It will be in their interest to automate.

President Reagan 43 years ago fired striking air traffic controllers after warning them their strike was illegal. He then decertified the union and hired replacements.

If President Trump takes office in January, and this bully union boss doesn’t get his head out of the clouds, HE AND THE UNION WILL FOLLOW PATCO BOSS POLI INTO IGNOMINY.

Not humans failing with easily observed human value correlation and correction, again, is it? Couple thousand years ago a man flipped out in his father’s place over these exact matters; human values and our collective failure. Some men you just can’t reach. The way we all ways could not before. When All else fails, the current barnyard management crew, at a minimum, wants bodies in the cook pot. Even one body has sufficed, historically, when displayed as corrective art.
