Amazing how covid was not about natural immunity through adequate restful sleep, exercise, healthy foods and vitamins and supplements. It was about fear, lockdowns, masking, a seditary lifestyle and less healthy eating. Let us not forget these crazy jabs. The whole thing continues to be mind boggling. I am tired of the propaganda and profiteering that continues to this day.

Indeed! I would add "real" in the middle of the phrase "healthy foods". Highly processed foods, no matter what vitamins they have added, are suspect.

I was in Laboratory Medicine until retirement in 2016. Even then it was known Vit D was beneficial in fighting any viral infection. The mainstream medical did not want people to know this. The studies under dosed the D so designed to fail in many cases.

Vitamin D is helpful in a myriad of ways. Take it, and take 5000 to 10000 IU daily! Also cod liver oil capsules have D and other beneficial components, so add that in with your daily supplement schedule. As Dr Cole says, “you are your own best Doctor”

5,000 to 10,000 i.u. daily is still inadequate to achieve optimum blood levels. It takes 20,000 to 30,000 i.u./day to maintain optimum levels, an amount that is still ten-to-twenty TIMES below a possibly toxic level.

See Dr. Judson Sumerville's excellent book: The Optimal Dose: Restore Your Health With the Power of Vitamin D.

Vitamin D isn't even a vitamin. It is a hormone and so is needed in much higher amounts than vitamins. Every cell in the body requires it! It improves sleep, improves or eliminates sleep apnea and RLS. It modulates the immune system and therby reduces infections and cancer. Improves energy, metabolism, muscle strength, metabolic syndrome, and brain function. Slows aging. Reduces appetite and food cravings in the overweight and helps restore normal weight. And more!

Good points, though in the sunnier half of the year, I would prefer to go beyond a 2,000iu/day capsule via sun exposure.

Sun exposure also helps with nitric oxide and melatonin production, though each hormone/chemical may be triggered by different types of radiation (IR, UVA, UBC) and therefore may come at different amounts in various times of day and year.

And K2 to keep D where it should be

Big Pharma doesn’t make money by endorsing the concept that boosting Americans blood value of D from 25 ng’s to 50 ng’s would make them less susceptible to disease states and beat Covid hands down! Pfizer’s expensive Paxlovid would crash! Ivermectin does the same as Paxlovid and is cheap so they tell you it is horse worm medicine!

What do you mean? According to https://c19early.org, to produce the same results:

Paxlovid is only 3,903 times more expensive than vitamin D

Paxlovid is only 1,774 times more expensive than Ivermectin. 😁

I’m taking 7,500 IU a day along with K, Zinc and other supplements. Rarely have a cold, don’t remember last time I had the flu. Had Covid May 2022 which was like a mild sinus infection. Cleared on day 3.

God Bless you Dr. Alexander! I am so thankful that you have stood up for the cause of right. Your Substack is the best, so informative and gives us the current knowledge that we all need to know. And yes of course taking Vitamin D3 is certainly is a game changer. We have been on the protocol since March 2020...and it is still important in this family...

It is also important for PCOS. Quercitin too as you know is so important, have used it since the 1990’s for my son with respiratory issues, and also for my husband who suffers from the negative effects of Agent Orange. Science/Medicine is ever changing and the best part is sharing our knowledge to help each other🙏🏻

For sure , vitamin D is the game changer for a good immune system amongst a host of other benefits . Thank you Dr Alexander for your tireless efforts to help humanity during these dark times .

As much as suicide is talked about , I hear no mention of this recently published study done in veterans that showed close to 50 % reduction in suicide risk in suicide and self harm . For black veterans the risk was reduced by a whopping 65% if their baseline level was < 19 !!!

The science is only talked about when it lines someone’s pocket or confirms to a narrative . What happened to equal care for all that’s free from bias ... to me this seems full of bias when there is no messaging going on to inform black veterans of the immense benefits of vitamin D given in the correct doses not pediatric doses like 400 to 800 IU daily. The lab ranges need to change to make the new normal 50 instead of 30.

Here is the link to that study

Yes, Vit D aids in a positive mental outlook, less anger, less anxiety, if getting to the correct level by suppleentation or sun exposure.

I am happy just reading that sentence.

The frequency of the rather deficient 800 IU dose was not noted.

I have been taking 10,000 IU of vitamin D3 and 50,000 IU of vitamin A daily for years, resulting in a 25(OH)D blood level averaging around 50ng/ml in three annual assays.

The vitamin D level sounds like you're really kicking assay. 😁

Have you checked out the possibility of vitamin A toxicity with such a high daily dose?

My favorite health book is Vitamin K2 and the Calcium Paradox: How a Little-Known Vitamin Could Save Your Life by Kate Rheaume-Bleue. She has thoroughly studied Weston Price's research publications and identifies his Activator O as vitamin K2. She says in the book that vitamin A and vitamin D3 are collaborators that protect those who take both in mega doses from toxicity from each other, and I have found that to be true in my own self-experimentation. This book is worth its weight in gold for those who want to supplement with lipid soluble vitamins.

With a surname like "Rheaume-Bleue", I hope Kate sells a lot of books to pay for all the vowels she had to buy. :-)

All kidding aside, this is an interesting tidbit to consider.

Several months ago I had the goal of eating a weekly dose of 4 ounces of Icelandic cod liver in cod liver oil. For some reason my body told me to stop. (Some YouTube doctors recommend eating the tin over a 2-day period, but it doesn't taste as fresh after 24 hours in the fridge.) Perhaps I needed to improve my ability to digest animal fats, which I think I've done recently. So perhaps I should restart. I think cod liver/oil is relevant to this topic because it is high in both A and D3.

Expand full comment

If one is forced to resort to DHA & EPA from animal sources, it is best to use the molecularly distilled versions of it.

There are far better sources of vitamins A and D3 than cod.

I’ve always taken at least 5,000IUs of D/day. Dr. Gundry also has his cancer patients on 10,000. Now that SO MANY people are getting cancer, most should think about taking 10,000.

I take 5,000 to 10,000 iu of D3 with Mk7.

I've been taking 16000 iu Vit D per day (with vit K) since September 2021 (after a covid infection), and have not had a single illness of any kind. That's despite being around a bunch of constantly ill vaccine recipients in the office. I think they are a bit pissed off.

Edited to add - always take with fat - butter or coconut oil, chew and swallow. It is oil soluble and more bioavailable.

Go for the gusto and take at least 5,000 IUs of D3. I've upped my intake to 8k.

I am allergic to facebook.

That's a good thing to do as we have to be our own heath advocates especially these days. Unfortunately I'm not of FB and they don't tend to allow much viewing on their site other than stores selling products, and still very limited so I tend to not even try anymore. Their censorship during covid was too objectionable for me, but do understand others reasons for staying.
