TIMELINE of the FDA's 15 year ban on sales of amino acid L-tryptophan:

1988 - Prozac/fluoxetine product launched by Eli Lilly under patent protection.

1989 - amino acid L-tryptophan banned by U.S. Food and Drug Administration (F.D.A.)

2001 - Eli Lilly's patent on Prozac/fluoxetine expires. Sales begin of generic fluoxetine.

2003 - Glaxo's patent on Paxil/paroxetine expires. Sales begin of generic parozetine.

2004 - Forest Labs' patent on Celexa/citalopram expires. Sales begin of generic citalopram.

2005 - F.D.A. lifts its 15-year-long ban on L-tryptophan and it can once again be legally sold as a dietary supplement -- just as it was in 1988 before the arrival of Prozac and its chemical cousins!

I am growing sweet wormwood in my garden and it has a nice smell too. I call sweet wormwood, oregano, and black seed the holy trinity of herbs :-)
