I guess it means there is some cross-reactivity due to previous infection with other coronaviruses.

Yes, coronaviruses of other varieties have been around for a very long time. https://youtu.be/WLILmWZXGRg The common cold is a Corona virus.

It's saying that T cells may defend against covid-19, and not just antibodies. T cells have longer term memories.
