It is shocking. My husband and I were both air crew in the AF. The physicals were ridiculous just for class 3. My husband had to get a civilian flight physical to compete his private pilot license he started in the military. He had a sleep study done and the issue was resolved . The Dr he saw back when has since died and his records disappeared. Starting all over wasn’t a option. So he let it go.

But he does know how to land a plane! Truthfully we are done flying.

I feel these awkward events are psychological traps for public acceptance of pilotless commercial aircraft technology, that in large part already exists. - https://simpleflying.com/pilotless-passenger-planes/

The C-17 was a step in that direction . The AF cut flight crew from 2 pilots & 1-2 flight engineers and 2 loadmasters in the previous cargo jet the C-141, and the C-17 has 2 pilots no flight engineer and 1 loadmaster thanks to the technology so no doubt the pilotless aircraft is probably in the future.
