About the only positive thing about the past 3+ yrs- , I personally at 52 yrs old have taken over my health like never before. Weaned off anti depressants, changed my diet dramatically and changed my entire outlook on life and especially our Creator. He is here and He is real. God Bless us all.

Intermittent fasting (I eat one meal a day, so fasting normally for 22-23 hours) and ketogenic diet (try to keep it all as organic as possible) is the best way, for most humans to eat. I follow Dr. Berg on YouTube, as do 10M others, and his advice has added years to my life, and my wife likes knowing I am as muscular today, as when she met me! I have friends who have fixed metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, and even cancer, from this lifestyle.

Please DO NOT parrot the BS from Big Pharma:

* Eating plenty of vegetables, fruits, lean protein and whole grains

* Limiting saturated fat and salt in your diet

Grains are not healthy, whole grains are just less unhealthy. Salt isn't inherently a problem, but an imbalance of electrolytes caused by excess sodium and carbs in processed food is a huge problem.

The best way to avoid avoid metabolic syndrome and related chronic diseases is:

1) Eat real food, including plenty of animal-based products and natural oils (like ghee and olive oil).

2) Avoid sugar, corn syrup, and most other natural and artificial sweeteners.

3) Avoid processed foods, especially processed carbs and seed/vegetable oils.

4) Stop snacking and investigate intermittent fasting.

5) Get plenty of fresh air and sunshine, while avoiding sunburn.

6) Exercise moderately.

7) Sleep long enough each night.

8) Find non-drug and non-alcohol stress coping mechanisms that work for you.

9) Pray.

10) Communicate with friends.

I go out of my way to add saturated fat to my diet, and I even drink lightly salted water (a dash of pink salt and a dash of Morton Lite Salt), and I've seen my BP go from 130/86 to just under 120/80 in the past 8 months. (I did also quit an annoying job, which I didn't need...) Since I switched to a keto diet (high fat, medium protein, and low carb) I have no problem keeping my BMI in the 22-23 range. It used to bounce around 24-26, and I expect I could easily lower it further if I felt the need. I needed to buy some new clothes or have some altered due to the decrease in my waist size.

My HDL and Triglycerides are both near the border of excellent and too good to be true. I no longer take glucosamine for occasional joint pain; I never have been diagnosed with Covid...

Hi Paul,

Your practical health advice is welcome.

Thank you.

I have a simple mantra.

When I wake up in the morning, I ask myself two initial questions.

1. Do I feel like I want to kill my wife?

2. Do I feel like I want to kill myself?

If both are a negative, then my mental health is OK.

Physical health I determine by whether I am able to stand up and not collapse.

If that's also OK, then it will be a good day.

I refuse to test for cholesterol, or blood pressure or sugar.

I haven't been to a physician in probably twenty years.

A lot of my mates and contemporaries are on statins and high blood pressure tablets and special diets.

I know when I feel unwell.

A good evening to all.

Barry

Limit seed oils. Animal fat is fine on a veggies and meat diet.

Metabolic syndrome is a problem, but eating fruit is a causal factor, not a remedy. Fructose in any amount year around is poison really. Vegetables are not much help either. Eating saturated fat is not a problem if it is not eaten with sugars and starches. It is the best source of food energy.

The advice of the medical profession is a major cause of chronic disease.

Why did you not mention the fact that having ample Vitamin D in your body over 50 ng's reduces the risk of ill health, including the diseases you mentioned? It is no accident that risk of dying from the Covid was negligible if your blood value of D was over 50 ng's. If everyone was tested for low D and took action to raise blood value to over 50 ng's, we would reduce healthcare costs in the US by billions! Ooops no money to made here if Medicine endorsed this action!

PS: VA knows the truth..ran a research program on D and ignored it to keep growing their bureaucracy! They still are following the Covid rules!

All of the above helps: lifetime maintenance is the key really: but if one cannot get that stubborn layer of FAT off the gut, sides and belly the "COLD" or Sono Cold.. or the Cold ICE PACKS does work; You have to be very careful if you do it on your on: cold can burn your skin. BUT my son did it.. (he also was a boxer and weight lifter and I am retired from medicine, former long term runner etc. IT DID WORK I was amazed, but as we all know those fat cells are still there.. so if one eats.. they get filled back up long story go look up the Sono cold system. My son used a system he bought on line filled w. ice packs.. used very very slowly over six months. REMOVING THE FAT AROUND the WAIST is the key.

Is it a coincidence that the best diet (keto) for reversing metabolic syndrome is also likely to reverse mental health issues?

Since I've learned about keto and what's wrong with current medical advice about diet, whenever I re-read the story of Cain and Abel, I wonder if we're being pushed to follow the diet of Cain instead of Abel.

Limiting saturated fat and salt?!?!?!!??!?!?

The doctors did that to my father. He died miserable. My mother also not to mention many of my relatives.

Look into animal based Keto and Carnivore. Working great for me and I am 70 and much healthier than the average. The diet helped reverse arthritis, artheriosclerosis, edema, neuropathy in my lower legs and feet...
