It might be interesting to note a sentence I had meant to include:
"Reports were less common during 1980 to 1993 (576 [31%]) than during 1994 to 2006 (1290 [69%], P<0.001) and increased at a rate of 6% per year."
Increase 6% per year seems disconcerting since there wasnt an increase pre 1994. It could be multifactorial (worsening diet, nutrient deficiency) but athletic young people are usually in good health. I wonder if another factor is increasing sudden death like gardasil and other vaccines, 5G, gut microbiome destruction.
Also note, sudden death more than doubled. Was it TRULY equally dispersed through the years or was there a sudden increase?

Yes, there could be numerous confounders for the increase in deaths. The study warrants comparison of the year 2005-2006 to year's up to 2020. Then a comparison to when athletes were back to playing sports after 2020 to determine if a spike truly exists.
I'm a Phd candidate and find this interesting. Anyone with a research background interested in pursuing this with me for publication after 2023 data is in?
