When I lived in Newmarket we enjoyed company with a wonderful Jamaican family. Husband was self employed upholsterer, wife was a nurse one daughter ended up being a doctor and the other a lawyer. The husband had tried to emigrate to the US but was thwarted in doing so and admitted it was because of the crime history of his island nation.

I have friends in the Cayman islands and they told me that after their island was submerged during a hurricane they imported lots of Jamaican workers to rebuild, but they ended up being criminals too and so they sent them back and blocked Jamaicans from ever immigrating to the Cayman's again.
