This is a huge problem and it underscores that if we use a non-sterilizing vaccine (sub-optimal) to implement population wide vaccine programs (mass vaccination) when pathogen is widely circulating, and you do this rapidly and aggressively, then the sub-optimal mounting immune pressure from vaccine antibodies intersecting with the infectious pressure from circulating virus, can drive the selection of highly infectious escape mutants.
