I would agree to an extent...but look around us, have we used anything, any advancement benevolently? It has tremendous applicability in the right hands with decent caring people, who want to squeeze the good from it...at present, its among money, making money and safety is not a concern...so we fear it...if we have good examples we can debate this...you are right, I dont know the length of needed research but no doubt we needs decades that were missed wit hthis mRNA disaster

I would say the polio vaccine and most pre-COVID Vaccines, sanitation technology, and many others. Of course, there are plenty of examples where advancements have been used to the detriment of others, perhaps starting with the development of the club and the discovery of fire. Yes, there are many self-serving, nasty bastards on this planet, but look at it this way: genetic enhancement is an opportunity to eventually eliminate those with negative traits, not through force but through wise choices made by prospective parents.
