But here's the thing: traitors can be called out and checked, and the earliest writings on freedom of the press explain that this is exactly the function of freedom of speech, to call out bad ministers and traitors.
So now we see free speech being attacked as mis-dis-malinformation but make no mistake, what this is really about is preventing criticism of traitors, so that traitors can continue to work above the law. All tyrannical regimes will claim that their critics are lying and then actively go after critics. This is how tyranny arises.
But we notice a curious thing: Malone attempted to silence legitimate criticism, of himself. And his ally, Desmet, claims that the origin of totalitarianism, its seed, isn't censorship and propaganda, as these are merely used against the "mass formation," but that the seed of totalitarianism is our own propensity for the alienating thought-patterns that arise from our mechanistic thinking, which itself arises from Enlightenment thought. In other words, totalitarianism arises from Reason itself.
My suggestion is that Desmet might be part of an operation to obscure the true origin of totalitarianism through massive censorship and propaganda, so that the operation can proceed under the radar as much as possible.
