‘METHODS. We performed a single-center prospective cohort study of 585 mechanically ventilated patients with severe pneumonia and respiratory failure, 190 of whom had COVID-19, who underwent at least one bronchoalveolar lavage. A panel of ICU physicians adjudicated pneumonia episodes and endpoints based on clinical and microbiologic data. Given the relatively long ICU length of stay among patients with COVID-19, we developed a machine learning approach called CarpeDiem, which groups similar ICU patient-days into clinical states based on electronic health record data.

RESULTS.CarpeDiem revealed that the long ICU length of stay among patients with COVID-19 is attributable to long stays in clinical states characterized primarily by respiratory failure. While VAP was not associated with mortality overall, mortality was higher in patients with one episode of unsuccessfully treated VAP compared with successfully treated VAP (76.4% versus 17.6%, P < 0.001). In all patients, including those with COVID-19, CarpeDiem demonstrated that unresolving VAP was associated with transitions to clinical states associated with higher mortality.

CONCLUSIONS. Unsuccessful treatment of VAP is associated with greater mortality. The relatively long length of stay among patients with COVID-19 is primarily due to prolonged respiratory failure, placing them at higher risk of VAP.’

The human body does not have unlimited resources of vitamin D nor good bacteria in the gut....

Put a gene altering drug into the blood stream and induce widespread inflammation ... those resources to fight it soon get used up especially in the oldest.

Vitamin D receptors get filled with spike proteins ... outcome no resistance to infection.

Stick tubes down into the lungs helps bacteria to grow... again large bodies reserve now used up... you lost the battle against inflammation and infection because it’s become fulminating.

Another cash reward for the ICU and the undertaker.

Australian 67 year old overweight billionaire and anti-vaxx politician Clive Palmer narrowly escaped death from iatrogenic illness after refusing to go on a ventilator early last year:

"After contracting the more deadly Delta variant in Sydney, Mr Palmer was rushed to Pindara Hospital on February 27. There were serious concerns for his health because he is 67, in a higher weight category for his height and unvaccinated."

"He was told by doctors that he had double pneumonia and Covid, and would be taken to ICU and put on a ventilator. 'I said that won’t be happening and I went home,' he said."

"His senior staff had been in touch with controversial gastroenterologist, professor Thomas Borody, who organised the US specialists to intervene. Instead, he went home, where a local team of four doctors took instructions from the US specialists on how to treat the billionaire, now said to be worth $18 billion.

'The US specialists, a couple of whom treated Trump for Covid, were very strong about not going onto a ventilator,’ he said.

'I’ve been told that without the anti-viral intervention on that Sunday night I would likely have been dead within five hours.'

Mr Palmer, who is not vaccinated, said the US-based team had put him onto a new trial that allowed him to take the anti-viral cocktail.

'I started to come good within 10 hours,’ he said."
